Design International

A design is a territorial right. In order to acquire design protection in other countries as well, there is the possibility of an international design application in addition to the Community design. International designs can be filed with WIPO via the Hague Design Agreement. There are currently 62 contracting states. Austria is not a contracting state to the Hague Design Agreement. However, through the link between the Community design protection system of the EUIPO and the Hague Design Agreement, it is also possible for Austrian applicants to enter the Hague system via the EU base and obtain protection in other contracting countries.

The registration and subsequent administration of an international design takes place at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, which maintains the register for international designs.
